Step 1: Product Concept and Ingredient Planning
Before you contact a factory, do your homework internally:

- Dosage form: capsule, tablet, powder, gummy, liquid
- Ingredient candidates: In South Korea, functional claims require ingredients from the MFDS-approved notified or individually recognized functional ingredient list
- Volume intention: small test run vs. initial commercial launch — this shapes the conversation
Going into factory meetings without this prepared wastes everyone's time and signals inexperience.
Step 2: Factory Shortlisting and First Contact
The non-negotiable first check: the factory must hold a Health Functional Food Manufacturing License from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS). Selling products manufactured at an unlicensed facility as health functional foods is illegal.

Step 4: Prototype Development and Review
Once specs are agreed, the factory produces a prototype. Plan for multiple revision cycles. My first OEM product required three rounds of prototype adjustments before sign-off.

- Taste, aroma, color (for consumer palatability)
- Physical form (capsule size, coating, appearance)

After quality clearance, finished products are packaged, labeled, and delivered. Run these steps in parallel:
